About Carbonado
Who we are
Carbonado repurposes Wyoming coal into innovative, zero-waste products, preserving the state’s coal heritage while reducing industrial waste.
Founded and led by Kim Lau, a pioneering entrepreneur and researcher, Carbonado is a Wyoming-based, female-owned company dedicated to redefining coal’s potential. As the first to handcraft char bricks and construct Wyoming’s first char brick house, Kim has secured over 18 patents for advanced coal-based materials, prioritizing durability and engineering efficiency. Today, Carbonado produces high-quality, custom, and high-volume products—including plant pots, artisanal goods, and construction materials—continuing our mission to turn coal byproducts into practical, lasting solutions.
